10 Amazing Social Video Statistics

Content Marketing in a Video Age

According to Facebook, we live in a video age. Your audience is far more likely to watch and share animated video content than all other forms of social content.  To put this list in perspective, I found a quote from Mark Zuckerberg on the future of video in social media.

Ten years ago, most of what we shared and consumed online was text. Now it’s photos, and soon most of it will be video. We see a world that is video first with video at the heart of all our apps and services.
— Mark Zuckerberg

That's pretty telling from someone that was at the beginning of the social media domination. Part of what Mark Zuckerberg needs to do is stay on top of the trends in social media. If he's saying it, I am listening!

But, if we are going to use social video effectively, we need to understand a little more about it. I found an infographic and survey results on Social Media Today that put things in perspective and give us a good idea of how consumers are using and watching video today. The infographic will be posted after the list of key and interesting stats. The following stats are compiled from the Social Media Today infographic as well as this amazing list of 48 Video Marketing Statistics on Biteable.

Social Video Statistics:

  1. In 2019 80% of ALL internet traffic will come from video

  2. Social video generates 1200% more shares than text and image content COMBINED!

  3. 90% of consumers say video helps them make a buying decision

  4. 64% of consumers buy a product after watching a video about it

  5. 1 minute of video is equal to 1,800,000 words

  6. Including a video on a landing page can increase conversions by up to 80%

  7. Companies that use videos in their marketing have 27% higher clickthrough rate and 34% higher conversion rates than those that don’t.

  8. Mentioning the word "Video" in your subject line increases email open rates by up to 19%

  9. Video ads have an average clickthrough rate of 1.84%, the highest of all digital ad formats.

  10. 33% of viewers will stop watching a video after 30 seconds, 45% by one minute, and 60% by two minutes.

There are a few takeaways here and how they translate to stop motion animation in particular. Shorter videos are far more popular than longer video. 60% of consumers don't want videos over 2 minutes and 33% stop watching after 30 seconds. Nearly all of the stop motion animations that I have created for clients have been 30 seconds and under. Stop motion lends itself beautifully to short form video content creation. The other notable statistics here is that video on landing pages can increase conversions by up to 80%! Putting a short video on a landing page is an easy task, and stop motion animation is perfect for this as it can visually tell a story without the need for words and subtitles allowing the consumer to have the best possible experience on your landing page.

No matter how you look at it, video is driving the way that consumers shop and interact with brands. Consumers want short, interesting, and engaging content from brands.
